Selling Fees for Clothes in 2026: What eBay, Etsy, Depop, Poshmark, Grailed, Mercari and Vinted Take

Every seller and buyer fee for second-hand clothes on the main US and UK marketplaces, read from each marketplace's own fee page on October 26, 2026, with what you actually keep on a $40 and a £40 sale.

Prices checked October 26, 202610 min readBy Vintage Snap

In the US, Depop takes the least from a typical clothing sale: no selling fee, only payment processing of 3.3% + $0.45. Poshmark takes the most, 20% on any sale of $15 or more. In the UK, private sellers on Vinted and eBay pay no selling fee at all; the buyer pays a fee on top of your price instead. Every number below comes from the marketplace’s own fee page, checked on October 26, 2026.

Fees are only half the picture. A marketplace that charges more can still leave you with more money if your piece sells for a higher price there. So read the table, then the worked examples, then decide where your item’s buyers actually shop. For more guides on valuing, dating and selling vintage, see the Vintage Snap guides hub.

US marketplaces, one by one

eBay

Most clothing on eBay.com falls under “most categories” on eBay’s selling fees page: a final value fee of 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 per item, 2.35% on any portion above that, plus a per-order fee of $0.40, or $0.30 when the order is $10 or less. The total amount includes the item price, shipping charged to the buyer and sales tax, so on a cheap item with paid shipping the real cut is more than 13.6% of your price.

Two exceptions sit inside Clothing, Shoes & Accessories. Women’s bags and handbags pay 15% on sales of $2,000 or less. Men’s and women’s athletic shoes selling for $150 or more pay 8% with no per-order fee. You get up to 250 listings a month with no insertion fee; after that, each listing costs $0.35. eBay says you don’t pay third-party payment processing fees on top of the final value fee.

Etsy

Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy charges $0.20 for each listing, which lasts four months and renews for another $0.20 if auto-renew is on. When an item sells, you pay a 6.5% transaction fee on the price you display plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrap. Payment processing for a US bank account is 3% + $0.25, per the Etsy Payments Policy.

Offsite Ads are the fee that surprises people. If a buyer clicks one of Etsy’s ads for your item and orders from your shop within 30 days, you pay 15% of that order, capped at $100. Shops that have made $10,000 or more in the past 365 days pay 12% and can’t opt out; smaller shops can. Etsy also says new shops may have to pay a one-time set-up fee, shown during set-up. Etsy only accepts vintage items that are 20 or more years old, so check the age of the piece before you list it there.

Depop

Depop’s seller fees page charges US sellers no selling fee. You pay payment processing of 3.3% + $0.45, charged on the item price plus shipping and any taxes. The buyer pays a Marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price plus up to $1, in force in the US since July 18, 2024. If you choose to boost a listing, the boosting fee is 12% of the sale.

Poshmark

Poshmark’s fee article is the simplest and the most expensive: a flat $2.95 commission on sales under $15, and 20% on sales of $15 or more. Buyers pay a flat $6.49 shipping fee per order, and a bundle from the same closet ships for one fee as long as it stays under 5 lb; above that, the overweight cost falls on the seller. Since October 1, 2025, sellers in Texas also see a Texas Seller Fee Tax deducted from their earnings.

Grailed

Grailed’s fee page says it is free for buyers. Sellers pay 9% on sales of $120 and up, and 6% with a $1.99 minimum on sales under $120, a reduced tier that applies to sales on or after May 20, 2026. The sale price used for the tier includes shipping charged to the buyer, unless you ship with a Grailed Label. Payment processing is separate: 3.49% + $0.49 on US payments if you are onboarded with Stripe, 3.49% + $0.99 if you aren’t, and 4.99% + $0.49 on international payments.

Mercari

Mercari’s fees article has charged a 10% selling fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping since January 6, 2025, for listings created or updated after that date. Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% on the same amount, and there is no separate payment processing fee on those listings. Listing is free, direct deposit to your bank is free, and Instant Pay costs $3 per cash-out.

UK marketplaces: Vinted, eBay and Depop

Vinted

Vinted’s UK price list, last updated October 8, 2026, has no selling fee. The buyer pays the Vinted fee, a mandatory platform fee charged at checkout when they use “Buy now”. It depends on the item, the order value and whether it’s a bundle, and Vinted gives it as “usually 3% to 8% + £0.3 to £0.8”, VAT included. Many older articles call this the Buyer Protection fee; the current UK price list calls it the Vinted fee. Sellers pay only if they buy visibility: Bumps (3 or 7 days, priced by duration and item price) or Showcase. Buyers can also add an optional £10 item verification service.

eBay UK

eBay’s UK page for private sellers, last updated September 30, 2026, says UK-based private sellers pay no final value fees and no regulatory operating fees, except on vehicles. You get 300 free listings a month, then pay 35p per listing. Optional upgrades cost extra, though Gallery Plus is free in Clothes, Shoes & Accessories. If the buyer’s delivery address is outside the UK, eBay deducts a 3% international fee.

The buyer pays instead. eBay’s Buyer Protection fee on items from UK private sellers is £0.10 per item, plus 7% of the price up to £20, plus 4% of the part between £20 and £300, plus 2% of the part between £300 and £4,000. eBay shows buyers prices with this fee already included. Items from business sellers carry no buyer fee, and business sellers pay their own fees.

Depop UK

UK sellers on Depop pay no selling fee and a payment processing fee of 2.9% + £0.30 on the item price plus shipping and taxes. UK buyers have paid a Marketplace fee of up to 5% + up to £1 since April 15, 2024. Boosted listings cost 12% of the sale if you choose to boost.

Worked example: what you keep on a $40 jacket

Example only. This uses the fee rules above on a jacket that sells for $40. To keep the sums readable, it leaves out shipping and sales tax. eBay, Etsy, Depop, Grailed and Mercari also take their percentage on shipping, so with shipping your fees will be a little higher. No ads, boosts or promotions.

Example: a $40 sale in the US, fees as of October 26, 2026

Marketplace Fees on $40 You keep Buyer pays on top
Depop $1.77 (3.3% + $0.45) $38.23 Marketplace fee of up to $3.00
Mercari $4.00 (10%) $36.00 $1.44 Buyer Protection fee
Etsy $4.25 ($0.20 listing + $2.60 transaction + $1.45 processing) $35.75 Nothing listed
Grailed $4.29 ($2.40 commission + $1.89 processing) $35.71 Nothing
eBay $5.84 ($5.44 + $0.40 per order) $34.16 Nothing listed
Poshmark $8.00 (20%) $32.00 $6.49 flat shipping

The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive marketplace is $6.23 on this jacket. At higher prices the gap grows: Poshmark keeps taking 20%, while Depop’s processing fee stays near 3.3%.

Worked example: what you keep on a £40 jacket

Example only. The same jacket sold for £40 in the UK, postage left out, no boosts or upgrades, sent to a UK address.

Example: a £40 sale in the UK, fees as of October 26, 2026

Marketplace Fees on £40 You keep Buyer pays on top
Vinted £0 £40.00 Vinted fee, usually £1.50 to £4.00
eBay (private seller) £0 £40.00 £2.30 Buyer Protection fee (£0.10 + £1.40 + £0.80)
Depop £1.46 (2.9% + £0.30) £38.54 Marketplace fee of up to £3.00

In the UK the seller keeps almost everything, and the competition moves to the buyer’s total. A buyer comparing your £40 jacket on Vinted with a £40 one on Depop pays a similar total on both, but on eBay a private seller’s £40 shows up as £42.30.

Low fees don’t always mean more money

  • The buyer sees the total. When the buyer pays the fee, a high price looks even higher at checkout. Compare your item with sold ones on the same marketplace, so the fee is already part of what buyers accepted.
  • Shipping is part of the sum. Most percentage fees in the US include shipping. Offering free shipping means building the cost into your price, and it still gets charged a fee.
  • The right buyers beat the lowest fee. If a designer piece would sell for $90 on Grailed but only $50 on Depop, Grailed leaves you more, even after its commission and processing. Price from sold comps first, as in our guide on how to price vintage clothing, then choose the marketplace.
  • Age rules limit where you can list. Etsy’s vintage category needs pieces 20 or more years old. If you aren’t sure, start with how to tell if clothing is vintage.
  • Offers cut into your price. On Poshmark, Depop, Vinted and eBay with Best Offer, buyers expect to haggle. Decide your lowest acceptable price after fees before you list.

If you don’t yet know what a piece is worth, the Vintage Snap app can give you a first estimate from a photo of the label and write the listing for whichever marketplace you choose. Treat its range as a starting point and check recent sold listings before you set the price.

How to check a fee before you list

  1. Open the fee page on the marketplace’s own site, not a calculator or blog. The pages in this guide keep moving: Mercari changed its fees in January 2025, Grailed added a lower tier in May 2026, eBay UK updated its page in September 2026 and Vinted UK its price list in October 2026.
  2. Check which kind of seller you are. eBay’s UK zero-fee rule covers private sellers only; business sellers pay final value fees.
  3. Check your country. Depop’s zero selling fee covers sellers based in the UK, US and Australia. Everywhere else it charges 10% plus PayPal’s fee.
  4. Look at the earnings preview the app shows before you confirm a listing or accept an offer, and compare it with your own sum.
  5. Write down the date you checked. Fees change without much notice, and this page is re-checked regularly. How we research and check our guides.
